The Art Well at Project 229

The Art Well is an arts for health project facilitated at Project 229 in Kempston, Bedford. Our focus is Improving mental health and wellbeing through creativity.

Throughout the pandemic we have been supported by the Bedford & Luton Community Foundation and Kempston Charities grants to enable us to run groups both online and face to face. Kempston Charities have funded the equipment for local Kempston residents. We are extremely grateful for their support, without them we would not have been able to continue.

We are happy to announce the new funding from The National lottery Community Fund, commencing in September 2021 for the next three years. With this funding we will continue to support adults within the community.

The Art Well is a referral group. If you are interested in finding out more please use the website link below or the contact page on this site.

The Art Well – An Update

The Art Well has now been running for 18 weeks, with over 30 referrals received, with 22 people attended or attending to date.

We have been able to offer four volunteering opportunities to people in the local community and two placements to students.

The Art Well is building on research that evidences the known health benefits of the therapeutic arts, which can lead to positive changes in mood, attitude, self-expression, interests, relation and stress reduction.

Our focus is on exploring and enjoying the arts process. It re-engages adults with the ability to play, which many may have lost or not engaged with recently, and provides a space for reflection.

The project is allowing us to reach more diverse groups in the Kempston and Bedford area, enabling individuals to be supported before they reach crisis point and allowing the sharing of experiences and lives.

We are currently planning an open event in early April for funders, referrers and the wider public. Our aim is to seek further funding for the project to continue beyond the pilot in September 2020.
